Embrace Silence: Unlock Mental Clarity and Spiritual Connection

SI.VM E.TA.V.VM.

SI.VM E.TA.V.VM. or otherwise E.T AV VM SILENTIUM EST AUREUM means Silence is golden.

We live in an era where we’re conditioned to be 24/7 busy.

Society has brainwashed us to believe that we’re only productive if our whole day is filled with things to do.

Hence, our schedules are overflowing, and our calendars are full.

Why is silence golden?

Silence is golden because it gives us time to reflect, clear our minds, pray, and hear God’s messages to us.

When our mind is occupied with thoughts 24/7, it doesn’t have time to rest.

Therefore, confusion and anxiety set in.

A busy mind becomes overloaded with information, and it’s hard to make the right decisions.

Our minds need rest like our bodies.

During silence, our minds reprogramme themselves.

That, in turn, allows our thoughts to flow with ease, thus making our cognition and decision-making more efficient.

Everyday distractions.

Two of the most common distractions are the internet and social media.

We tend to finish work or our everyday responsibilities, and we use the break we have allocated to ourselves to scroll through our phones.

During that time, our brain starts to store even more information.

Our left hemisphere becomes overloaded with information that blocks our creativity and imagination.

When we give ourselves a brake we should take a nap or pray.

This way we give our brain a chance to become quiet, restore, and revitalise itself.

Therefore, our hippocampus, which stores our short-term memories, becomes more efficient.

God’s Messages.

A quiet mind can “hear” God’s messages.

During prayer, we must keep our minds silent.

When our minds are overloaded with thoughts, we can’t hear God’s messages to us.

Therefore, when we decide to pray, we must always choose a quiet space away from distractions and noise.

In addition, we must clear our minds of any thoughts. Thereafter, we focus on our prayer and make it the epicentre of our focus.

During prayer, if you feel your mind wandering, refocus on your prayer.

Only when our minds are quiet can we hear God’s messages to us.

Apply silence in everyday situations.

Being silent during a heated argument can save us from further heartache.

Silence has the power to humble our ego.

Therefore, we don’t have the desire to always say the last word.

In addition, silence builds up self-awareness.

The world we live in resembles a honeycomb, and we resemble bees, working bees to be exact.

Subsequently, working bees never rest. The difference between bees and humans is that our minds and bodies are created in such a way that rest is essential for our well-being and cognitive functionality.

A 45-minute nap during the day or a 15-minute nap restores our physical and mental health.

A strong mind creates favourable situations.

Our brains are divided into two hemispheres: the left and right.

When our minds are clouded, we’re unable to make good choices and the right decisions.

Thoughts occupy both hemispheres, which causes our minds to “malfunction” when we’re overwhelmed.

A quiet mind has the capacity to think things through in detail.

Often, a busy mind makes quick decisions without considering alternative plans.

Hence, big corporations usually hire multiple people to solve one problem.

Therefore, one of the biggest gifts we can give ourselves is silence.

In conclusion

Silence is golden. It allows us to regroup our thinking process and evaluate situations more effectively, and, in addition, it helps us during prayer to hear God’s messages to us.

Amen
