Virtues versus Deadly Sins
The deadly sins are seven, as are the heavenly qualities. God bestows divine attributes, or Heavenly virtues, hence the term.
On the other hand, fatal sins are a curse placed on humanity by Satan, which is why they are lethal. In any given situation, we should strive for virtues and avoid fatal faults.
The seven heavenly virtues are:
1. Kindness
2. Charity
3. Chastity
4. Humility
5. Patience
6. Temperance
7. Diligence
The Seven Deadly Sins are:
1. Pride.
2. Greed.
3. Lust
4. Envy
5. Gluttony
6. Wrath.
7. Sloth
Mortal sins versus venial sins
Mortal sin is the gravest of sins, which is a willful turning away from God and destruction of charity (love).
Such a sin separates the sinner from God’s Grace unless they repent through confession. These fatal vices can lead to further sins and immoral behaviours, and they indicate a proclivity for sin and estrangement from God.
For example, lust could lead to adultery, which is a grave sin. Furthermore, “You shall not commit adultery” is the seventh of the Ten Commandments.
As a result, all seven deadly sins involve breaking one or more of God’s Ten Commandments. Venial sins, on the other hand, are committed with less severe intent and with less self-awareness of guilt.
Venial sins are performed without due consideration or agreement. Some venial sins include gossip, refusal to pray, harbouring doubts about one’s faith, indifference or ingratitude towards God, spreading rumours, and so on.
As a result, the seven deadly sins either directly or indirectly cause us to commit a mortal or venial sin.
Heavenly Virtues vs the Seven Virtues.
The seven virtues include four cardinal virtues and three theological virtues. Prudence, temperance, fortitude, and justice are the four cardinal or natural qualities.
Theological virtues include faith, hope, and love. Theological virtues do not originate in humankind; rather, they are imparted by God via Christ and practised by believers. Apostle Paul distinguished these three and singled out love as the most important:
1 Corinthians Chapter 13
“And now faith, hope, and love abide these three, and the greatest of these is love.”
Furthermore, we must never forget that God is love, faith, and hope.
- As a result, He is the only hope left in Pandora’s box after all evil has been unleashed.
- Unconditional love, unending love, love without limitations or restrictions, the ultimate self-sacrifice.
- Faith, inner conviction, and confidence in God lead to salvation.
Jesus is the light of the world, the antidote to all evil, the salvation of souls that leads to eternal life, and our saviour. He represents what the world needs: meaning, purpose, and peace. He is our home, and He is life.
Curses sent by Satan.
Satan despises humanity for the following reasons:
1. Our primary identity is as God’s cherished children. God’s favourite creation. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…”
2. We will take his place in God’s Heavenly Kingdom. Satan was driven out of Heaven and into the underworld for committing a grave sin against God.
He feels physically ill just thinking about how we’ll replace him.
As a result, Satan’s evil, hateful, and twisted soul has caused him to curse humanity as follows:
Suicide – Abortion – Homelessness – Illnesses – Depression – Rape – Mental disorders – Addiction – Bestiality and necrophilia – Cannibalism – Incest, among other things
God is the only way out of everything described above. As a result, we should reinforce our faith through prayer. In addition, we should always follow the Ten Commandments, endeavour to do what is right, and live in harmony with God.
In conclusion,
Deadly sins are more than merely having a terrible day; they are impulses, desires, and compulsive thoughts and feelings born of darkness.
The only way to counteract these seven deadly sins is through the seven Heavenly virtues, which are obtained by God’s grace.
Amen
